"American Idol" ends its seventh season Wednesday night on the Fox network with the crowning of its latest champion either Utah's 17-year-old David Archuleta or Missouri's David Cook.
Although it's still TV's top-rated show, "Idol's" ratings have declined this season. And that leads one to the educated guess that the ratings for this season's finale may not match those of previous years.
To see what this year's show is up against, Nielsen-wise, here are the five highest-rated "Idol" season finales:
Season 5 (May 24, 2006, with Taylor Hicks winning): 36.38 million viewers
Season 2 (May 21, 2003, Ruben Studdard): 34.24 million viewers
Season 6 (May 23, 2007, Jordin Sparks): 30.74 million viewers
Season 4 (May 25, 2005, Carrie Underwood): 30.27 million viewers
Season 3 (May 26, 2004, Fantasia Barrino): 28.84 million viewers
