With regard to Dennis Romboy's excellent article "Signs of the Times?" (May 11), it is my opinion that the root cause of increased disrespect for one another is society's decreased recognition of God as the source of all that is good in our lives. In the beginning of this nation, children were taught in public schools moral principles with words from the Bible. They were taught to say "please," "thank you" and "excuse me." Prayer, which reminds us of our relationship to God and to each other, was once allowed in public schools. Today, it is against the law. When we disallow the mention of God in public, society is in a bad state and it is no wonder we are less courteous with one another.
