Alberta Elizabeth Mitchell Smith1927 ~ 2012What a fantastic life she led! In her 85th year, Alberta from Alberta, returned back to Heavenly Father on February 8, 2012 from complications following a stroke. She was born to Ralph Leroy Anderson Mitchell and Anna M. Newell on September 24, 1927 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She had the honor to be raised by her sweet step-mother, Ivy Jean Ferlin. While working as a dental assistant, Alberta met the Sidney B. Smith boys who introduced her to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Taught the gospel between kisses by her sweetheart, Al, she was baptized in the Cardston Alberta Temple, and they were sealed in the same temple a year later. Since joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she has served unfailingly in every assignment. She served multiple missions including as a mission president's wife in North Carolina and the London England MTC. Teaching and proclaiming the gospel were her passions, which endeared her to hundreds, including those who served her in her final weeks. Alberta loved serving the sisters of the Church. She loved hiking "G" Mountain in Pleasant Grove, which she always referred to as Grandma's Mountain. Alberta is survived by her sister Hazel Beamont, her cousin Tom Mitchell (Karen); children: June Smith (Gordon), Saurell Jackson (Eric), Mitchell Smith, Laura Freebairn (Chuck); 19 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren with two on the way. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Sloan Alma Smith and son Alexander Thomas. Guess what? I LOVE YOU!Funeral services will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove 1st Ward building, 275 East 500 South. Friends and family may pay their respects Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. or from 9:30 10:30 a.m. at the church.
