Lucie Leyba Loumis2/7/1925 ~ 2/8/2012"Yia Yia"Lucie Loumis, known as "Lu" was born to Basilio and Alcarita Leyba as the third child of eight in Trinidad, Colorado. She spent the early years of her childhood in Grand Junction, Colorado and then moved to Utah where she met and married her husband, John Loumis Sr. To their marriage were born two daughters and one son. They settled in Cottonwood Heights (at that time known as Butlerville) in 1947 and enjoyed the small town atmosphere offered there. Our Mom and Dad had a fruit farm of several acres with peaches and apples and enjoyed working the land. Mother especially loved working in her yard planting all kinds of flowers and tending to her garden. A family owned restaurant business called the Tampico (on Regent Street) began to flourish and Mother split her time between home and helping Dad at the restaurants (which franchised). Mother was an extremely hard worker. She enjoyed her work, but she also enjoyed meeting so many nice customers and making so many friends. Mother had several talents. She sewed for all her children, cooked wonderful food, especially at the restaurants, gardened well, read voraciously, collected Coke memorabilia, collected rocks and collected rocks and collected rocks. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her. As she grew older, she had a special desire to visit her mother's grave in Grand Junction, Colorado which she did. Lucie had a special place in her heart for her mother, who died when she was 10 years of age.She was preceded in death by her husband John Sr., siblings Pauline, Dorothy, Benny and Abraham, and granddaughter Para Trujillo.
