Marilyn Marjean Pattillo Chaston1929 ~ 2012Salt Lake City, UtahMarilyn Chaston, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 6, 2012, from complications of cancer. She was born November 4, 1929 in Salt Lake City to Robert Henry Pattillo and Ada Jennie DeKorver. She married Cecil Grint Chaston on July 11, 1949 in Logan, Utah. Marilyn graduated from South High and was involved in music and theater. She performed with the Deseret News Chorus as a Marimba Specialist. She was known throughout the community for her over 70 years of marimba performances. Marilyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled many callings including serving on the Hillside Stake Primary Board. She also served throughout her life in Scouting and received both the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver for her service. She was also a longtime member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Marilyn had many special talents including music, art and sewing. She was known for her handcrafted pioneer dolls. Marilyn is preceded in death by Cecil Grint Chaston (husband) and Glen Robert Chaston (son). She is survived by her children: David (Marilyn), Joel (Rebecca), Paul, Gary (Diane-deceased, Lisa) Patricia, Kenneth (Lily), Jeanette Swalberg, Maureen (Matt) Whiting and Robert. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgehill Ward, 1735 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.Visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City with an additional viewing 1 hour prior to the service beginning at 9:45 a.m.Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
