Genevieve Groen10/6/1921 ~ 1/31/2012Graveside services will be held at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery at 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah 84092, 801-571-2771, at 11:00 am on Monday February 6th, 2012. Visitation with family from 9:45 to 10:45 for those wishing to personally pay their respects, will be held indoors at the Larkin facility on site. Everyone who knew "Mom Groen" over these many years would attest that she was the most selfless of human kind. She was the go-to person in the neighborhood to solve whatever crisis that arose. She feared 'man nor beast' when it came to protecting the weak or needy no matter whether it be her own children and their many friends who regularly sought her advice, or simply the children of the neighborhood. She was extraordinarily strong, courageous, intelligent, hardworking, and creative while being the most giving of persons. She was self-educated to a level equivalent to 20 years of higher education reading hundreds of books and learning to read and write 12 different languages in her search for the origin of the alphabet. This was a ten year effort put on hold for her to write and publish an epic poem of nearly 10,000 lines, "E Pluribus Unum," using her pen name "Genevieve St. Cyr," a twenty year effort. Her work on the alphabet ended in an unfinished manuscript as her failing mental capacity finally took its toll. She was preceded in death by her oldest son Jay and her only daughter Rene, both to cancer, and after 67 years of marriage, by her husband Henry on 9-11-10. She is survived by her remaining three sons: Marty, David, and Meru, plus 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.Messages and tributes for the family may be posted at:
