Margaret Lee Young Madsen 1923- 2012Margaret Lee Young Madsen, passed away February 3, 2012, of complications of old age. Margaret was born July 21, 1923, to Lee Franklin Young and Verlia Genette Crites Young in Cramerton, Gaston County, North Carolina. She was the oldest of four children. Educated in public schools in North Carolina, she graduated from Lowell High School in 1941. Margaret attended St Mary's College, Belmont, North Carolina and Northern Arizona State College, Flagstaff, Arizona and graduated with a B.S. degree and a secondary teaching certificate from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, 1947. She married her sweetheart of seven years from Lakeview, Utah, Carlos N Madsen, MD, on March 21, 1949, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had nine children. Margaret taught school at Dixon Junior High and Maeser Elementary School, Provo Utah. She served in leadership positions in local and district Parent-Teacher Associations. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in numerous positions in the Relief Society and youth organizations of the Church. Margaret was a gardener and nature lover and maintained a life-long hobby in genealogy. Survived by her children, Lynda Hiatt (Clay), Carlos F. (JoAnn), David (Heidi), John (Annette), daughter- in-law Nena (Earl), Margaret Hernandez (Gary), Paul (Kerri) and Gregory (Laurel); son by affection Kevin Batchelor (Laura); 32 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three grandchildren by affection; brothers-in-law Ronald and Lowell (Bonnie), sister-in-law Sandra S. Madsen. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Carlos, sons Stephan and Earl, two granddaughters, parents, and three infant brothers. The family would like to thank all those who provided care during Margaret's declining years including loving neighbors, Curo Hospice, and Sunrise Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at the Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale UT, Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call Monday, February 6, 2012, at Goff Mortuary, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah beside her husband Carlos. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charitable organization.
