CHAMONIX, France — Klaus Kroell edged Bode Miller to give Austria its first World Cup downhill victory of the season.
Miller was faster than Kroell at every split Friday, but the American lost time on the bottom section.
Veteran Swiss skier Didier Cuche was bidding for a third straight downhill win this season. But he wound up third in a tight race under overcast skies, with light snow falling on the La Verte des Houches course.
Hannes Reichelt had the previous best downhill performance from an Austrian this season, finishing second on the Lauberhorn course in Wengen last month. Kroell, meanwhile, has had three third-place finishes.
