George Alfred McQuillan1927 ~ 2012George McQuillan, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully Monday, January 30th, 2012. George was born the youngest of eight children on, February 15, 1927 to William James McQuillan and Charlotte Emma Jackson McQuillan in Salt Lake City, Utah. George joined the United States Navy when he was 17 years old and served during World War II. "Yurgy", as he was nicknamed by his fellow seamen, served on 3 different ships and was a part of "Operation Crossroads" in July 1946. This operation examined the effects of both air and underwater atomic explosions. On his last leave home, before he was honorably discharged, he met Bonnie Allred. It was love at first sight. George was discharged on a Sunday evening and he bought Bonnie's engagement ring the following Monday morning. Bonnie would describe him as, "that tall handsome man with hazel eyes, who loved dancing the jitterbug." He married Bonnie Ruth Allred on July 15, 1948 in Elko, Nevada. Together they raised their three children in Salt Lake City, Utah.George was a finish carpenter by trade and loved working with his hands. He lived a full life, surrounded by lots of loved ones. He will be missed by all those who knew him. We are grateful to have known him, and know that he is now with his beloved wife Bonnie.George is survived by his three children: Lee (Nancy), Mary (Jerry), Carrie (Del); nine grandchildren Martie, Kathleen, Jeanette (Bill), Lloyd (Stephanie), Matthew (Brooke), Damon (Jennifer), Mandi, Brandy, Rachael, and thirteen great-grandchildren: Samuel, Maxwell, Xantiana, Azrielle, Kyrstine, Carson, Breanna, Ashton, Nicole, Eric, Evan, Jonah, and Cherie. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, his parents, four sisters, Lillian Josephine, Dorothy, Ethel, & Eileen Mary, and three brothers, William, Albert, and Edmond McQuillan.A viewing will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive where friends are invited to meet with the family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
