Lester Burton Hanson1925 ~ 2012Lester Burton Hanson, 86, of Lehi, passed away peacefully January 30, 2012. He was born in Provo to Lester and Hannah Margarette Hair Hanson on April 2, 1925.Raised in Provo and Roosevelt, Utah and Ely, Nevada. Graduated from White Pine High School, where he played tennis and football, and played the clarinet. Inspired by a Scoutmaster who sought him out, he earned his Eagle Award and was also a Sea Scout. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 at age 17. Assigned as a Sonar Instructor, stationed on Treasure Island, San Francisco Bay for the duration of the war. Honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Graduated with a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of California at Berkeley. Member of Engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi. Married Helen Burdett of Oakland, CA, August 2, 1950, in the Logan LDS Temple. Raised his family in the Philadelphia area, where he worked as an Electrical Engineer in sonar R&D at Johnsville NADC, as well as a Real Estate Broker. Pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State. Retired from civil service in 1985. Work was his passion. At age 60, bought 27 acres near Red Lion, PA, and planted 1,400 fruit trees. Retired as an Orchards man after an accident in 2006. Lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a wide variety of callings including Scoutmaster and member of Stake Seventies Presidency. The family would like to thank the staff at Alpine Valley Care Center for their loving care.He is survived by his wife of 61 years and four sons: Ray (Kathleen), Kent (Elaine), Tom (Chris), and Jim (Lisa), as well as a brother, Darrell (Nancy), and sister, Patricia. Also survived by sister-in-law Joyce, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard.Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4th, at 12 Noon at the Lehi East Bench Meeting house, 1631 East 900 North (4 blocks east of Stake Center). A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah, and an hour prior to services Saturday morning. Interment at Lehi Cemetery.
