Melvin Blaine Johns1926 ~ 2012Melvin Blaine Johns, born Jan. 15, 1926 to James and Bessie Johns in Ogden passed away on January 26, 2012. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Upon returning from the war, he furthered his education, and married Carol York. Following her unexpected passing he married Louise White (later divorced). Together they had his greatest gifts, his two daughters, Jenny & DeeDee. Mel worked in the cutting edge of technology at Tooele Army Depot, Lockheed, and Novell. Following retirement, he returned to his childhood roots and worked as a cashier for Smith's Marketplace enjoying the day to day interaction with their customers. His adventurous and "don't tell me no" attitude fed his passion for flying. Next to his love for his family nothing compared to his love for flying his own airplane. He is survived by his greatest treasures, daughters, Jenny McKay (Matt) and Melody Barkley (BJ), 9 grandchildren, and 3 dogs. Also survived by brother, Darrell Johns (Mona); sister, Anitta Furlong (Doug). Preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents; older siblings, Lamont, Robert, and Jennabee. Friends and family will miss his sharp mind, frank way of sharing his opinion, mischievous grin and hearty chuckle when telling a story. He could be described as a "character" you couldn't help but love. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Olympus Ward, 4635 South Lanark Road (3315 East).
