Elwood J. Heiner1913 ~ 2012Our wonderful dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, Elwood J. Heiner, returned to his Heavenly Father on January 25, 2012 in Sandy, Utah of natural causes after a healthy, long, and active life. We affectionately called him, 'The Energizer Bunny'. He was 98 year old.He was born December 28, 1913 in Morgan, Utah to Henry and Melissa Robison Heiner. He spent many happy years in McKinnon, Wyoming working the ranch with his family. He married his sweetheart, Lucille, on October 30, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity and they had a loving 71 year marriage. Elwood and Lucille lived most of their lives in Salt Lake City, Utah where they raised their four children, Ronn (Nancy) Heiner, Doug (Sandy) Heiner, Dave (Christine) Heiner, and Tani (Owen) Mackey. They have 23 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. Elwood has one living sister, Allowee (Jack) Briggs, whom he adores. In Elwood's younger years, he was a very skilled horseman and enjoyed ranching. He served honorably in WWII for 3 years, involved with The Battle of the Bulge and the horrific Death March. Elwood was a caring husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, and neighbor. He always went out of his way to help others. He loved to be outdoors working in everyone's yards. He was a very hard worker and an unselfish provider for his family. He was a gentle, quiet man with a subtle wit and a great sense of humor; he loved to make us laugh. He had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and never missed attending his meetings, attending the temple, volunteering at Welfare Square, or serving in his many church callings. Elwood and Lucille served a three year mission in Central City Salt Lake. He set an excellent example for his posterity. Elwood is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters, and two brothers. The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice for their love, kindness, and dedicated caregiving. We would also like to thank the Our House Assisted Living for loving and helping Elwood these past few months.
