Ella Beth Weeks Leavitt1927 ~ 2012Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Ella Beth Weeks Leavitt, passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease on January 22, 2012. She was born May 4, 1927 in Vernal, Utah, the only daughter, to Elizabeth Ingles and Alvin Edwin Weeks. Ella Beth grew up in Vernal and graduated from Uintah High School in 1945. While attending Brigham Young University, she met her sweetheart, Bryce Clark Leavitt. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 9, 1947. They were later blessed with eight children; four boys and four girls. Each child was very special to her. She was a wonderful mother and worked alongside her husband in the family business (Yankee Lunches). Ella Beth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many positions, often more than once, in the church throughout the years, including Primary president, Ward and Stake Relief Society president. Mother, along with her sweetheart, served the people of the Hmong Branch in Midvale and at the Washington D.C. Temple for nearly ten years. They returned to Utah to work as Temple workers in the St. George Temple. Ella Beth enjoyed reading and belonged to book clubs for many years. In her later years, she often read to Bryce and to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday with a card, a personal note and a two dollar bill included. She was an expert at crochet; each of her grandchildren were given one of her handmade afghans upon their graduation from high school and many great grandchildren received a hand stitched baby blanket from grandma. Mother was a great story teller and loved doing family history work. Mother was an amazing cook and baker. She could make a delicious meal at a moment's notice with whatever she had on hand. She enjoyed baking cakes, pies, and cinnamon rolls for others to enjoy. She was truly an example of selfless service. But of most importance, she was a faithful mother and devoted wife. Ella Beth cared deeply for her family. She had a talent for making each family member feel important and loved. She is survived by her eight children; Kathleen (Robin) Ridge, Dennis (Maura), Steven (Renee), Bonnie (Chuck) Straw, Janet Henderson, Ron (Marlene), David (Laura) and Kristine Siddoway; her two brothers, Ernest (Elaine) and Melvin (Doreen), her 47 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death five weeks earlier by her sweetheart Bryce Clark Leavitt, her parents; her brother Conway; her son-in-law, Ralph Henderson; and granddaughter, Julia Bennion Bond. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Caregiver Support Network, caregivers Diana McGee and Adam Lindsey for the tender, loving and dignified manner in which they cared for our sweet Mother.
