LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Records show an Arkansas truck driver suspected in the death of a distant relative of former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee had threatened his ex-wife from jail.

Authorities say Donald Hux killed Sandy Huckabee and then kidnapped and shot Huckabee's wife. Hux was once married to Amy Huckabee, who later died.

Sheriff's deputies killed Hux during a shootout Sunday night.

Amy Huckabee told police in August that she feared for her life after receiving threatening letters from her ex-husband. Police in Arkadelphia got a warrant but couldn't arrest Hux because he was in custody in Texas and then Louisiana. He was released Thursday.

In letters obtained by The Associated Press, Hux wrote his ex-wife would want to kill herself to get relief from the problems he planned to cause her.
