Gerald Allan Thompson1930 ~ 2012Gerald Allan Thompson passed away on January 20, 2012 after a 6-year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 5, 1930 in Salt Lake City, to John Stewart Thompson and Clara Vondella Mitton Thompson. Jerry spent most of his childhood in Salt Lake City before moving to Texas where he graduated from Brackenridge High School.Jerry lived a full life and he accomplished those things that meant the most to him. He served his country, served his church, became an accomplished attorney, was an active FBI agent, and raised a family. From 1951 to 1954 he served in the US Air Force. While he was stationed in Tripoli, Libya, he also was an editor for the Stars and Stripes newspaper, as well as a radio station DJ. Jerry served an LDS mission in Central America including Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica. He had many choice experiences that he wrote about in his journal.After completing his LDS mission, he attended University of Utah Law School and graduated in 1963.On April 23, 1964, Jerry married Barbara Hodson Dalling in Logan LDS Temple. He adopted Beverly and Ray from Barbara's previous marriage. The same year, he accepted a long-held ambition to serve as an FBI Agent. The family moved to Washington, DC and then to New Orleans, Louisiana. Together they had Sara and Todd Thompson. In 1967, Jerry became a civilian attorney advisor for the federal government at Hill AFB's Ogden Air Logistics Center Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Office. Jerry and Barbara divorced in 1971.In 1972, Jerry married Loise Wing Clark and became a father figure to her 3 children Rick, Sharon and Charlotte. Tiffany Thompson joined the family April 1974. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1977.Jerry took an assignment with the US Air Force's PACAF JAG office at Yokota Air Base, Japan from 1975 to 1979. His next assignment was with the Army Contracting Agency Europe from 1979 to 1989 in Frankfurt, Germany. He returned to Utah with an assignment to Tooele Army JAG office and retired from the Defense Logistics Agency Counsel's office at the Defense Depot in Ogden in 1996.Jerry held many church assignments throughout his life serving as a teacher, counselor in Bishoprics, and serving on Stake High Councils. Jerry is survived by his wife Loise and their children, Richard Clark, Charlotte Clark Thompson Jensen (Rick), Tiffany Thompson Linford. He is also survived by Beverly Rose Ririe (Brent), Ray Martell Merrill (Amy), Sara Thompson Brunken (Jeff) and Todd Thompson, 25 grandchildren, his sisters Beverly Rowley Takos (George), Patricia Eyre, Kathlyn Gates (Glenn, Deceased), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sharon Clark Anderson Manning and his grandson David Christian Brunken.The family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Jerry including the angel that lives next door.There will be a graveside service held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 East 2850 North, North Ogden, Utah 84414. A private family gathering will be held prior to the services from 12:00 to 12:45 pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
