Justin Smolka"Gone Fishing"Justin Jay Smolka, 40, died surrounded by family on January 19, 2012. Justin was born February 3, 1971, to Clarence Don Smolka and Geraldine Carlson Smolka in Wrzburg, Germany, while his father was serving in the army. He attended Skyline High School. The oldest of five children, Justin grew up in Emigration Canyon where he learned to love the out-of-doors. At one time, he could probably identify on sight any bird or other wildlife in the area. With his sons and father, as well as other family and friends, he hunted, fished, camped, hiked and backpacked. Justin came from a long family history of scouting. He is one of 26 Eagle Scouts in three immediate generations of Smolkas. Included in his scouting experience were many fifty-mile hikes in the High Uintas. Besides these passions, he could be found watching NASCAR, football, or cooking. But he was best at being a good husband and father. Justin married Barbara Lynne Jarmon on June 27, 1998. His working experience was primarily with Smolka Construction, but also with Carpet Giant, Subway, framing houses, and various other jobs. Justin is survived by his wife, children Nickolas Tobe Holliday, Jay Thomas, Javin Don, and Jenna Lynne. He also leaves behind his parents, siblings, Jeff, Jim, and Jeremy Smolka (Toni), Jaime Hardwick (Sean), nieces and nephews, Barb's siblings, Nini, Niki, and Dan Bolinder, and in-laws Jenny and Wayne Carper. He was preceded in death by grandparents Clarence and Donna Smolka, Thurle and Hazel Carlson and Bob Bolinder.Services are planned for Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Crestview Chapel, Monument Park 20th Ward, 2795 Crestview Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, at noon.
