CEDAR CITY — Southern Utah University's Sigma Nu fraternity has been indefinitely suspended by the group's national organization following a hazing incident last year.
The Spectrum reports the fraternity's activities were placed on hold after the hazing incident came to light.
A one-year probationary period put in place by SUU was changed this week to an indefinite suspension by the national Sigma Nu office.
Sigma Nu Director Tim Braddick says the decision to suspend the university's chapter was based on several factors, including the hazing incident, low levels of recruitment, low academic achievement and financial issues.
Officials would not discuss the nature of the incident.
University officials say the chapter is ineligible to receive official standing on campus for five years.
