A K-9 officer and dog go over the scene as Unified Police Officers investigate a shooting Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 4963 South Heath Avenue in Kearns, that left a 17 year old boy in critical condition in the hospital.

On your 2011 Utah state income tax form, page two, there is a new check-off box: the canine body armor fund. This fund was established by the Legislature last session to assist Utah law enforcement agencies with the purchase of body armor for their police dogs.

A benefit golf tournament last August raised almost $4,000 for the fund, and many have sent their own donations. Please consider checking box 11 on your state income tax form when you file; if everyone in Utah donated only $1 dollar, the canine body armor fund would be set for a long time to come. Thanks, everyone, for supporting these courageous canines and their human partners.
