Val Keith Meier1919 ~ 2012Val Keith Meier passed through the veil on Sunday, January 15th, 2012. He was born on February 19th, 1919 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to George and Hazel Guymon Meier. He was the second child born into the family, with an older brother, Gail and a younger sister, Rene. Val grew up in Salt Lake City attending East High School and the University of Utah. He served in the army during World War II as a medic earning a bronze star for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. After serving his country for over four years he returned to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States mission. Upon returning home, he married Faye McGrath in the Salt Lake temple. They had five children, two boys and three girls. During the early years of family life, Val graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education and taught school in Utah, California, and Michigan for over twenty years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life. Val's favorite sports were skiing, swimming, and ice skating. He loved to jog, sing old songs, eat ice cream, and yodel. He is survived by his wife, five children, 14 grandchildren (one granddaughter preceded him in death), and 17 great-grandchildren.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the 27th Ward Chapel, 185 North P Street. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral beginning at 10:15. Interment with military honors will take place at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
