William S. Boyd1926 ~ 2012Our beloved father, grandfather and friend William S. Boyd (Bill) 85 passed away peacefully Saturday January 14th, 2012.He was born October 1926. He attended college at Notre Dame in June 1944. He entered the Navy in October 1944 where he served for 21 months. He scored high on the Electrical engineering test and out of 80,000 sailors was chosen for officer's candidate school where he placed in the 70% scale. After being discharged from the service he attended the University of Wisconsin where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1948. In 1951 he married Elizabeth Neutgens (Betty) in Wolf Point Montana. She passed away in 1979. From 1951 to 1954 Bill worked in upstate New York in his chosen field of Civil Engineering as the area manger. Shortly after moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1953 Bill and Betty adopted twin boys (Joseph and Richard). In 1961 they adopted a daughter (Patricia). In 1963 the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Bill started the Salt Lake Branch for the Peter Kiewit Sons Company. Bill had several highlights in his career including being President of the Utah AGC in 1981; he also received the prestigious Eric W. Ryberg award for outstanding service to the Utah general contracting industry. Retiring in 1982 and being an avid golfer and member of the Old Geezers golf club he was teeing off as often as possible. Bill married his second wife Afton Ryberg Cannon in 1983. She passed away in 2008. Bill had a quick and humorous wit we will all miss the "Billisms". He was very active in his faith and was a powerful model to us all. His strong spirit and influence will be widely felt and sorely missed.Survived by his two sons Joseph Boyd, Richard Boyd (Becky) and daughter Patricia Boyd, and grandsons Marcus and Andre Boyd.Services on Monday January 23, 2012 at 11:00 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
