Elsie M. Barnson Hansen1913 ~ 2012On January 11, 2012, Elsie Mae Hansen passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Sandy, Utah. She was born October 11, 1913 in Salt Lake City to Thomas H. and Florence L. Morgan. Graduated from Cyprus High School in 1931 and received her teaching certificate from the University of Utah in 1933. Married Arden R. Barnson, July 10, 1936, later divorced. Married Elmer H. Hansen, November 27, 1963. He preceded her in death April 29. 1997.Elsie was a teacher, a truck driver at Camp Kearns during World War II, and retired as an accountant at Tooele Ordinance Depot. She was a gracious lady who was more concerned about others than herself. She appreciated everything others did for her and always wore a smile. She loved being involved in all the family activities from walking the parade route with the Magna Drum and Bugle Corp to watching swim and gymnastics meets, football, soccer, or baseball games as well as rodeos and trap shooting events. We will all miss her loving support. Elsie was an active member of the Pythian sisters, serving as State President. She was honored by the national organization for her charity work in Utah. The firefighters at Station #3 will always remember her tasty homemade treats. She served with Elmer for many years as secretary of the SLC Retired Firefighters Association. To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the department. Elsie chaired a committee that made 100+ quilts for the U of U Burn Center.Survived by daughter Barbara (Dave) Kragthorpe, Logan, UT; son Tom (Faye) Barnson, WVC, UT; Stepchildren Marsha (Hal) Peterson; Carol (Stan) Evans; Grandchildren Kurt (Sandra) Kragthorpe, Steve (Cynthia) Kragthorpe, Jodi (Alec) Wilkins, Scott Barnson, Shelli Barnson, Geoff (Rachel) Peterson, Michael (Ashley) Evans, Rachel Evans. Nine great-grandchildren; Sean and Alexa McPherson, Brooke and Bryan Barnson, Chris, Brad and Nik Kragthorpe, Gage Butler and Aiden Peterson. Preceded in death by parents, husbands, sister Emma-Lou Weir, and infant daughter Elsie Lorraine. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staffs at Alta Ridge and Millcreek Home Health and Hospice for their loving care and support. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC. The family will greet friends Friday, January 20, from 6 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
