Raymond Wesley Van Duren1921 ~ 2012Raymond Wesley Van Duren, age 91, died January 11, 2012 in Hurricane, Utah of natural causes. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah January 18, 1921 to Jacob Anthony and Agnes Amanda Olsen Van Duren. Married Dorris Marie Ogden September 30, 1939. She preceded him in death in March 2008.Ray graduated from South High, served in the Navy as a mechanist mate during World War II. After the war he became a manufacturing jeweler and eventually formed his own business, (Ray Van's Gems and Minerals). Ray was active in the LDS church and participated in the bishopric in the Haven and Kimble Wards and in the South Salt Lake Stake Council. He and his family then moved to East Mill Creek.He was a member of the Optimist Club for many years, a very active member of the South Salt Lake Lions Club and served as President three times and received numerous awards. He loved to bowl and golf. He was an artist in numerous areas, oil paints, stained glass, carving, and landscaping his beautiful yard. During his retirement he and his wife Dorris traveled extensively including China and Japan. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by sons, Michael Ray (Judy) Van Duren and Anthony (Gogi) Van Duren; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Preceded in his death by his wife, Dorris Van Duren; sister, Carol Gibson and brother, Melvin Van Duren; son, Dale Ray Van Duren and daughter, Debra Van Duren; grandchildren, Shannon Strickland and Katie Marie Van Duren.Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial, 3115 East Bengal Blvd. (7800 South) with a viewing one hour prior.
