Larry West Hurst1934 ~ 2012Larry West Hurst, 77, passed away peacefully in his home in West Valley City, Utah on January 11, 2012. He was born on March 15, 1934 in Moab, Utah to Clarence Ray Hurst, Jr. and LaVarda West Hurst. Larry served for eight years in the U.S. Air Force where he received a National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal. It was there that he learned to love cooking. In his younger years, he was very active in the Scouting program and he earned many awards including the Silver Beaver award. He was proud of his membership in the LDS Church and enjoyed serving in many callings. Larry found great joy in knitting hundreds of hats and donating them to the VA Hospital for the patients going through chemo therapy and to newborn nurseries. He also loved making things for those he loved. He was an all-around great guy who loved to tell stories and be with his family and friends. Larry is survived by his children: David, Terry (Ruby) and Kaylene (Brad) Yeates, 8 grandkids and 6 great-grandkids. His Siblings: Glade (Judy), Marlene (Gregg) Wilding, Brent (Joyce), 16 (and several great-) nieces & nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 children C. Ray and Doris.The funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18th at 11:00 A.M. at the Hunter 27th Ward at 4980 West 3265 South in West Valley, where there will be a viewing one hour prior to the services. There will also be a viewing Tuesday from 6-8 P.M at the same location. Interment: Mountain View Memorial Park.
