New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford (5) punts during NFL football practice, Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in East Rutherford, N.J. The Giants are scheduled to play the Green Bay Packers in a divisional playoff game on Sunday, Jan. 15.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Steve Weatherford still has Christmas lights lined around his locker and a holiday-themed welcome mat in front.

It's an eye-catching setup that hits you as soon as you walk into the New York Giants' locker room. Not as gaudy, though, is the taped headline from a story written in September when Mike Westhoff, his former special teams coach, said Weatherford "wasn't good enough" to punt anymore for the Jets.

"It's just a little fuel for my fire," Weatherford said Thursday. "Know what I mean?"

The Giants sure do. Weatherford averaged 45.8 yards on four punts against Atlanta in a 24-2 win last Sunday, keeping Eric Weems from doing any damage. He'll be counted on for another big day this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers and their returner, Randall Cobb.
