Robert Maurice Sipherd1931 ~ 2012Robert M. Sipherd passed away peacefully January 9, 2012 from cancer. He was born to Maurice Roy Sipherd and Gladys Wilkinson Sipherd on June 29, 1931 in Salt Lake City. When he was 12 his family relocated to Seattle, Washington. There he met Jean, his wife of 58 years, at a church dance when the two were 16 years old.Bob graduated from BYU then served three years of active duty in the US Air Force. After the growing family returned to the northwest, he worked at Seattle City Light, then went on to be Comptroller of the Bartell Drug Co. After Bob joined the JC Penney Co., the family moved to Moraga, California where he was Bay Area district operations manager. He returned to Salt Lake City to work for ZCMI and later as vice president of Grand Central.Always an active member of the LDS Church, Bob served a full-time mission and served several stake missions. He was an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple and a consultant at the Bountiful Regional FHC. Bob enjoyed playing tennis, ski jumping, competitive sail boat racing, raising quarter horses, woodworking, genealogy, studying history and the gospel. He had an unfailing testimony of the gospel and was an invaluable example to all he loved and served.Preceded in death by his daughter Christine Sipherd, Bob is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Jeanie (Warren) Marquardson, Bellevue, WA, Karen (Robert) Duff, Meridian, ID, Elizabeth (Jens) Nielsen, Bountiful, UT, Diane (Eric) Jergensen, Salt Lake City, UT and son Scott R.(Karen) Sipherd, Danville, CA. He leaves behind 19 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 South Mueller Park Road in Bountiful. A viewing will be at the church prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
