Arleen Swensen1921 ~ 2012Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Avery Arleen Stowell Swensen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Summerfield Manor in Orem.Arleen was born on January 23, 1921 in Miami, Gila County, Arizona, to Brigham Earl and Macy Green Stowell, the first of their six children. When she was six years old, her family moved to Duncan. After graduating from high school, Arleen attended college at Gila Junior College (now Eastern Arizona College) in Thatcher and the University of Arizona in Tucson, where she graduated in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition. Upon finishing her education, Arleen moved to Salt Lake City and found work with the War Assets Administration. It was here that she met her sweetheart, Richard Swensen, who was also employed by the WAA. They were married on March 15, 1949 in the Mesa Arizona Temple.Throughout her life, Arleen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings in the YWMIA, Primary, Cub Scouts, Relief Society, and later as a temple worker with her husband. She was also active with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Sunflower. Family and friends remember her kind and gentle nature, her thoughtful concern and charitable acts for elderly neighbors, and her warm smile.Funeral services will be held at the Stonewood 2nd Ward Chapel, 575 S. 400 W., Orem, on Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 500 N. State, Orem, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel prior to the service. Interment will be at the Provo Cemetery.
