OGDEN — Former Ogden Police Chief Jon Greiner is getting a severance package worth $77,300 after he was fired from his job last month for a federal Hatch Act violation.
The Standard-Examiner reports the payout equals six months of salary and accrued health, dental, vacation, vehicle and retirement benefits.
Greiner is releasing the city from future legal claims in exchange for the package.
The Hatch Act bars some public employees who handle federal grants from seeking or holding partisan office.
Greiner was under investigation since taking office as a state senator from Ogden. He held that seat for four years until 2010.
The U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board ordered the city last month to let Greiner go or risk forfeiting federal funding.
