PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia 76ers forward Andre Iguodala will be among 18 players vying for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

USA Basketball plans to announce all the players by the middle of the month. USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo contacted Iguodala this week about becoming part of the pool of players who will be considered for the US team at the London Games this summer.

Iguodala said Saturday night he wanted to show he could fit in and become part of the U.S. team.

The final 12-man roster and six alternates must be submitted June 18, before the NBA finals will be complete. But all 18 names have to be given to the U.S. Olympic Committee by the end of January to be placed in the drug program.
