I find it difficult to believe that the Canyons School District has its children attending school on a recognized federal holiday because "shortened weeks makes classroom learning difficult."

Since the beginning of the school year, there have been eight weeks where children were not in school the full five days. Why would one more shortened week make a difference? It seems like they could have given a holiday on January 2nd instead of the day before Thanksgiving.
