MURTAUGH, Idaho — Authorities in south-central who say a Twin Falls man who shot out the window of a locked car to retrieve his cellphone has been charged with use of a deadly weapon and malicious injury to property.
The Times-News reports that 23-year-old Daniel Williams was charged last month.
Police say Noel Hurd called police to report the incident but then told authorities that Williams couldn't have done it because they were such good friends.
But police searching the scene found a shell casing for a .45-caliber round on the ground and a slug in the car's door.
Police say Williams told them he shot out the window after Hurd refused to unlock the car.
Williams has pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance is set for Feb. 7.
