Lala Virginia Sturm Riley"A Beloved Valiant Lady"Passed away December 30, 2011 of causes incident to age. She was born October 28, 1914 in Holladay, Utah to Paul Daniel Sturm and Lala Jane Redmond. She attended Granite High School but left when she was 16 to care for her mother who had cancer. She married Herbert Edgley Riley, her eternal companion, December 17, 1932. She went back to school when she was 85 and graduated June 9, 1999 with her high school diploma. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions: Pianist for the Relief Society, as ward organist, Relief Society President, Young Women's President, served an LDS mission with her husband in the Harrisburg-Pennsylvania mission and later worked in the Salt Lake Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Janet Mecham, Jack Ewing, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Gerry Ewing, Barbara (Jim) Tweed, Beverly Miller, Connie (Michael) Murdoch, Judy (Terry) Jeffries, Virginia (Quinn) Hahn, Michael (Paulina) Riley, Lala (Robert) Rainey, Valerie (Jeff) Adams, Bruce Mecham, son-in-law (Ann), 58 grandchildren, 164 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 12 noon at the Winder West Stake Center, 4551 South 1200 East. A viewing will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah, and prior to the funeral from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church.
