Online sales continue to climb to record levels. From Nov. 1 through Dec. 16 shoppers spent $30.9 billion with an estimated $7-10 billion spent by Jan. 1, 2012. Can you imagine what a 5 percent tax would produce for state and federal governments?

Schools, highways and Medicaid could use the money. Many small retailers have folded because online sales have a 5 to 8 percent advantage from collecting no tax money. It's time Congress passed a tax law for online sales.
