SALT LAKE CITY — KSL Television swept the "core demos" during November sweeps, according to data released by Nielsen ratings this week.
KSL's late news Monday-Friday delivered a rating of 5.8 in the age 25 to 54 demographic for late newscasts, meaning an average of 65,000 in that age range watch the newscast on a daily basis. KSL also led the market in every other demographic but one — Early AM News, Monday-Friday (age 25-54) — where it finished third (1.5) behind KUTV 2 News (2.1) and KSTU Good Day Utah (1.9).
Tanya Vea, KSL's executive vice president of news and cross-platform content, attributed KSL's rating success to being aggressive in its ability to deliver compelling news and stories to a young, well-established demographic.
"The demos prove more educated adults get their news from KSL than any other source in Utah," Vea said. "Not only have we retaken the dominant position at 5 and 6 p.m., but we have maintained the No. 1 position in demos at 10 p.m."
On Saturday late newscasts, ratings revealed KSL at 5.7 (64,000 people), followed by KUTV 2 News at 2.8 (31,000).
KSL was 7.2 (80,000) in Sunday late night newscasts. KUTV 2 News was second with 3.5 (40,000).
In late sports, KSL was the top choice on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's rating was 2.4 (27,000) with KUTV Talkin' Sports at 2.0 (22,000) and KTVX Sports Zone at 1.6 (18,000). On Sunday, KSL registered a 3.5 rating (40,000) while KUTV Talkin' Sports was runner-up at 1.6 (18,000). KSTU Sports Page was third (1.1) and KTVX Red Zone was fourth (0.4).
KSL Outdoors with Adam Eakle held an edge of 1.7 (20,000) over KUTV Hooked on Utah at 1.5 (17,000).
KSL also commanded the top spot in Early Evening news, Daytime news and Daytime local lifestyle.
