Roland Palmer1936 ~ 2011Loved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great GrandfatherRoland Palmer passed away peacefully at his home in Bountiful on December 18, 2011 surrounded by his family after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's disease. Dad was born April 5, 1936 in Cedar City, Utah to Leo and Irene Chamberlain Palmer. He was the 5th of seven children. He graduated from Cedar High School and then attended SUSC for a year. He married his high school sweetheart, ReNee Gentry, in the Saint George Temple on April 28, 1956 for time and all eternity. Mom and Dad then moved to Bountiful where he attended the University of Utah and graduated top of his class and valedictorian in the profession of Civil Engineering. Being licensed in four states, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado, Dad's professional career led him to many great adventures with the Army Core of Engineers, U.S. Forest service, BLM, Utah Division of Water Resources, Bingham Engineering and Palmer Wilding Engineering. Dad's specialty was dams and irrigation water way projects. Dad loved the outdoors. He always had time for camping, fishing, and hunting with the family. One of his greatest pleasures was taking the family on trips. He found his greatest joy, pleasure, and peace when we were together at Lake Powell each year.Dad loved the Lord and serving others. He served in many callings including scoutmaster, varsity leader, High Priest group leader, and full-time missionary with his sweetheart in the Manchester New Hampshire Mission. He most recently served as a Temple worker in the Bountiful Temple, and as a host at the Conference Center.He is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Leo Palmer, two sisters, Joanna and Avis, and his two brothers, Brent and Paul. Roland leaves behind two sisters, Zoe Leone Petty (Clayton), Claudia Yardley (Jim), his loving and valiant wife of 56 years, his seven children: Kevin (Rowena), Lisa (Bruce), Jill (Tom), Kyle (Elise), Brett (Jeanine), Lance (LeAnn), Dallin (Susi), 31 grandchildren, one great granddaughter.The family would like to give special thanks to the many caregivers, friends doctors and nurses who have assisted Mom over the years and especially in the past few weeks. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2011, with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Mueller Park 2nd Ward, 1825 South 850 East, Bountiful, Utah.A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 8:00 at 1825 South 850 East, Bountiful, Utah.
