Russell Beck JexDec. 12, 1919 ~ Dec. 18, 2011Russell Beck Jex, 92, died December 18, 2011 at his Holladay, Utah home. Russell was born December 12, 1919 in Burley Idaho to Alex J. Jex and LaRue Beck Jex. As a youth he loved the summers spent in Spanish Fork working on his grandparents' farms with his brothers. He attended East High school in Salt Lake City, the University of Utah and received an MBA from Harvard in 1942. A member of the Greatest Generation, Russell served in the US Army during World War II serving as a Captain and Company Commander.His career was devoted to the financial industry. Russell was President of People's First Thrift, Utah's first industrial loan company. He was Chairman of the Board of the Better Business Bureau. He served as a director of the Salt Lake Junior Chamber of Commerce, as President of the Utah Consumer Finance Association, as Chairman of the Board of the Consumer Finance School, and was a member of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and Salt Lake Rotary. Russell was an avid horseman and he was most at ease when riding with his family or caring for his Arabian horses.Russell will always be remembered for being a complete gentleman. He was always thoughtful and responsive to the needs of others. He never said an unkind thing about anyone and he never complained. He only saw the glass half full. He was a Rock. He was always there for his family and friends.Russell married Mary Beckstead Hilton. They divorced. He married Norma Barlow Orchard. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma and by his brother Doral Jex. He is survived by his daughter Debra Jex Adamson (Marv), her children Todd and Clint, and three great grandchildren; his brother John Jay Jex (Kay) and sister Carrol Jex Walton (Gordon); his step daughter Sharie Hilton Crowther (Steve) and her children, Pyper, Brandon and Christopher.Special thanks to neighbor Jerry Jensen who was Russell's "guardian angel" during the past several years offering assistance nearly every day to make Russell's life easier.Friends and family are welcome to attend a viewing at Deseret Mortuary, 38 East 700 South SLC from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday December 22, 2011 at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
