RACE PARSONS, South Sevier, basketball: The reigning 2A boys basketball MVP has picked up right where he left off this season.

The 6-foot-4 for junior has averaged 25.6 points and 9.9 rebounds this season in leading the Rams to a 7-1 record.

Last Wednesday he scored 18 points in South Sevier's 62-43 victory over Carbon, and then on Friday he scored 33 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in a 78-46 win over Kanab.

Two weeks ago Parsons scored a career-high 43 points against Manti.

Parsons, whose grandpa played at BYU, averaged 21.2 ppg last year in leading South Sevier to the 2A title. This year the Rams are ranked No. 2 in 2A and No. 15 in the entire state thanks in large part to a victory over 5A Fremont two weeks ago.

ERIN REICHLE, Weber, girls basketball: This junior point guard leads her team verbally and through her no-nonsense work ethic.

"She's one of our hardest working and most focused players on the team and works so hard in practice, after practice, and in the games," said Weber head coach Rick Stoeckl. "She is quick and strong athletically and she handles pressure very well."

She led the team in scoring at the Bear River Tournament and was key in the comeback wins against Juan Diego and Bonneville.

"She handles the ball, passes well and shoots it very well," he said, noting she moved from shooting guard. "She is also a great defender and rebounder."

"A great kid from a great family," Stoeckl said she was Weber's starting second baseman last spring.
