Bryce Clark Leavitt1926 ~ 2011Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Bryce Clark Leavitt, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2011 at the age of 85. He was born on his father's birthday, June 28, 1926 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Mary Ann Davies and Lawrence Clark Leavitt; the third of five children. Bryce grew up in the following cities: Leavitt, Alberta Canada; Chicago, Illinois; and Indianapolis, Indiana. In his youth he enjoyed playing hockey and later became an avid Utah Jazz fan. He became a U.S Citizen in Philadelphia and then enlisted in the Navy in 1944. He served in both theaters (the European and Pacific) during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, Bryce attended Brigham Young University, where he met his sweetheart Ella Beth Weeks. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 9, 1947. They were blessed with eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls. "Daddy" enjoyed being around his family and never had a hurtful thing to say about anyone. Grandpa always had his "Candy Closet" stocked for his grandchildren. He teased the grandkids that the letter "C" in his middle name stood for "Cookie." Bryce was self-employed most of his adult working life and was the owner-operator of Yankee Lunches with locations in Salt Lake City, Murray, Midvale, Orem and Bountiful, Utah. Dad served as Bishop of the Midvale Eighth Ward and a Temple Sealer in the Washington D.C. Temple. He and his sweetheart served the people of the Hmong Branch in Midvale, and at the Washington D.C. Temple for nearly ten years. They returned to Utah to work as Temple workers in the St. George Temple. He is survived by his sweetheart, Ella Beth; and their eight children; Kathleen (Robin) Ridge, Dennis (Maura), Steven (Renee), Bonnie (Chuck) Straw, Janet Henderson, Ron (Marlene), David (Laura) and Kristine Siddoway; his two sisters, Maureen Jackson and Marilyn (Clair) Kendall, his 47 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Lawrence; his sister, Elsa; his son-in-law, Ralph Henderson; and granddaughter, Julia Bond. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Caregiver Support Network, caregivers Diana McGee and Adam Lindsey for the tender, loving and dignified manner in which they cared for Dad.
