Virginia Lee Shilhagopian Jacobs Hatton1923 ~ 2011Virginia Hatton, our beloved mother, wife, sister, grand-mother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on December 13, 2011. Virginia was born on February 6, 1923 in Salt Lake City, UT to Carl Jacobs (Khoren Armenag Shil-hagopian) and Mary Elizabeth Naillon Jacobs. She was the firstborn of seven siblings: Heber, Dorothy (McMeen), Melvin, Maxine (Garrett), Elaine (Bons), and Duane. After graduating from West High School she attended the University of Utah majoring in Civil Engineering and subsequently went to work at the Utah Ordinance Depot as a draftsman where she designed artillery for World WarII. It was here she also met Porter Melvin Hatton and on July 2, 1943 married him in the Salt Lake Temple. She retired from the UDOT (Highway Design). She also obtained a cosmetology license from Salon of Switzerland in Sugarhouse. She had a love for flying and as a young women pursued her pilots license. Virginia's life was one of dedication to her spouse, children and grandchildren. The Hatton family moved to Fillmore, Utah in 1944 then Kearns, Utah in 1957 and finally to Bountiful in 1966 when Virginia found her dream home where Stone Creek ran through the backyard. Bountiful came to know her as the Rock Lady. She had gigantic rocks hauled to her yard and loved working in the creek and yard and required her future sons-in-law to work with her. She is preceded in death by parents, husband, siblings Heber and Elaine. Survived by her children Gordon (Kathy), Irene Windham (Don),deceased; David (Evonne), Annette Latimer (Hal), Mary Brown (Kelly), Jewelya Spencer (David Singer), Douglas (Wendy), 38 grandchildren (3 sets of twins), 40 great-grandchildren.Funeral is Monday, December 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 16th Ward, 720 E. 550 N. Viewing at Russon Brothers, 295 N. Main, Bountiful from 6 to 8 pm Sunday, and 10 to 10:45 am prior to funeral. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery. We would like to express special thanks to all who gave aid, care, service and kindness to mother after the fall that broke her hip.
