The recent headline "'I do' becoming 'maybe later' or 'maybe not': Number of marrieds drops to 51 percent" (Dec. 14) concerning the decline of marriages in the U.S. is very troubling.
Marriage provides for stable families that are essential for our future. During tough economic times, there could be reasons not to marry but, if the desire to marry is also on the decline, then we do have a problem.
I can never understand someone who says, "I love you, but I don't want to marry you." Love and marriage go together, as depicted in a familiar song. If you truly love someone, you want to get married to them.
