Joy Castleton Murdock1933 ~ 2011Joy passed away peacefully due to stroke complications December 9, 2011. She was surrounded by her family and many angels. Joy was born April 20th 1933 in Salt Lake City Utah to Leo B. Castleton and Phoebe Taylor Castleton.Joy was a teenage beauty, winning Miss Sugar House queen 1949, Abe's Babes and the runner up in the Miss Utah competition. She modeled for Castleton's department stores. Joy's physical beauty was only surpassed by her spiritual beauty. She was raised in Salt Lake City on 17th E. and 17th S. She married C. Alan Murdock on October 6th 1949 and later Solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 27th 1997. They lived in Idaho before buying their first home on 39th S. and 1450 E. in Salt Lake where they lived for 35 years raising their four children. She worked for First Security Bank for over 25 years in the customer service department where she made many good friends.Joy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and loved the Temple and attended regularly. She was called as a member location missionary in 2005 and served until she passed away. Joy loved golfing, bowling, camping and fishing with her husband of 57 years. She was also the local card and domino shark. Joy enjoyed water aerobics, loved her walks and never missed an opportunity to visit with a friend or neighbor. Joy was the most compassionate and caring person and loved to spend time with her family. She loved her grandkids and made a point to attend all their games, activities and loved to brag about them. She enjoyed many friends especially spending time with Alan and Bob. Joy loved their rides and evenings watching the sunsets countless breakfast, dinners and outings.Many people will miss our sweet and valiant servant. But we know there is work to be done in Heaven and that her time spent here on earth will be treasured by those who knew and loved her.Joy is survived by three children Kraig (Toni) Murdock, Ohio; Mark (Kelly) Murdock, St. George; Michelle Johnson (Frank Fry), SLC; a sister Fay Jager; 11 Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren.Preceded in death by her husband Alan Murdock, son Zack Murdock, Brother Don Castleton.Funeral Service Changed. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday Dec. 15th at 7:00 p.m. at the LDS church Riverside Branch, 2434 Riverside Drive St. George Utah. A visitation will be held prior to services at 5:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Heideman Hughes Mortuary 435-674-5000.Burial and Graveside Services will be held at Wasatch Lawns in Salt Lake City on Friday Dec. 16 at 3:00 p.m. for friends and family.
