Joyce Lee Baker1932 ~ 2011Joyce Lee Baker, the most wonderful woman you could ever meet, passed away December 9, 2011. She joins her husband, Lt. Colonel Robert M. Baker, Sr. (Bob), anxiously awaiting her arrival. Mom leaves behind four children and an extended family that will miss her guidance very much. Throughout her life, she was involved in a variety of activities supporting children, family and community. Joyce was a Boy Scout Den Mother and active with her daughters in Girl Scouts. She and Bob started the Denbigh Dozier Athletic Booster Club in Virginia, supporting their children's schools and sports. In Utah, she donated time to the Bridges Program in elementary schools and loved to tailgate at University of Utah football games with friends. After moving to Pahrump, Nevada, in 1996, she and Bob opened yet another chapter of community support and civic involvement. Joyce and Bob co-founded what is now called the United Way of Nye County. She affiliated with and supported the Friends of the Library, the Neurofibromatosis Foundation, Community Solutions for Education, Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce, Boys Town, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Earlier years found her painting, gardening (especially growing roses) and camping with family. Later in life she relaxed with jigsaw puzzles or watching sunsets with Bob and their dog, Buddy. Joyce and Bob traveled extensively with friends and treasured each and every friendship -- old and new. Christmas was her favorite holiday, loving to decorate the home with holiday cheer. Considered by her children and others the greatest mother, friend and confidant, she will be missed -- but her memory will forever be cherished. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 17th at 11 a.m.; Pahrump Family Mortuary; 5441 S Vicki Ann Road. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Friends of the Library, United Way, or charity of your choice.
