Call them Dasher and Prancer.

It was just 12 days before Christmas when the latch on a trailer carrying two reindeer north on Interstate 45 near Houston came unhitched near Bay Area Boulevard, Webster, Texas, Police Chief Ray Smiley said.

A ramp unfurled, and before the driver could stop, the reindeer leaped out and dashed across the freeway and a feeder road to a nearby Metro Park and Ride lot — perhaps to catch a ride to the North Pole?

The escapees were safely corralled by a woman accompanying the trailer's driver, who owns a petting zoo, Smiley said.

The reindeer sighting kept Webster police busy. They sent three or four officers to the scene, Smiley said.
