FILE -- In this Oct. 29, 2011 file photo, Auburn coach Gene Chizik talks to his players in the first half of a NCAA college football game against Mississippi in Auburn, Ala. Chizik said Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, he'll run the defense against Virginia in their Chick-fil-A Bowl game scheduled for Dec. 31, after defensive coordinator Ted Roof left to take the same position at Central Florida.

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn players are hardly surprised that offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is leaving for a head coaching job.

Still, quarterback Clint Moseley says when it actually became official, "It was a weird feeling." The players learned Tuesday night that Malzahn was taking over at Arkansas State while in a movie theater watching "The Sitter."

The announcement came a week after Central Florida hired away defensive coordinator Ted Roof to run its defense

Tigers coach Gene Chizik doesn't sound concerned with his predicament. He says "there's no panic whatsoever on our side."

He'll run the defense against Virginia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl while Malzahn will return Thursday and direct the offense for a final game. Chizik says Malzahn "was very adamant about wanting to coach in the bowl game."
