Charles L. WrightTogether ForeverCharles (Chuck) Leland Wright passed away December 2, 2011, at his home in Sandy, Utah. He was born June 27, 1922, to Alma and Elizabeth Wright. He went to night school at West High while working during the day as an apprentice plumber. He became a journeyman plumber at 19. He was married 69 years to the love of his life, Myrtle Steadman. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1962. He served in the Navy during World War II. He loved to tell about his war-time experiences. He was known fondly to his friends as Chuck. He was a volunteer fireman for the Sandy Fire Department and served as Fire Chief. He retired from the fire department after 35 years. Charles was also an artist and took many of his paintings to the State Fair where he won many blue ribbons. He also helped paint some of the murals in the St. George Temple. He started his own plumbing business in 1952 with his brother Alma. During this time he volunteered his plumbing skills to help remodel the old Sandy 3rd Ward building, also a school for the handicapped, and a new LDS chapel in Sandy. He received the national George Meany Award for union and community service. He was also awarded the Noel Bateman Award from Sandy City for community service. He was a member of the American Legion, post 77, for 10 years. He was a member of the Temple Quarry chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, and served as president in 1969. He was also a member of the Mormon Battalion. He loved the Boy Scouts and was a leader and great example to many young men. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his many years of service in the scouting program. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church and served in many positions. Charles and Myrtle spent many of their later years traveling and camping with the Good Sams and the Friendly Campers. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Elizabeth Wright, Myrtle Wright (wife), Alma Wright (brother), Anita Sessions (sister), Harriet Cowdell (sister), Raymond Wright (brother), Ross Wright (brother) and son, Dean Wright. Charles is survived by his children: Charlene Price, Kearns; Allen (Phyllis) Wright, West Jordan; Diane (Lon) Elwood; West Valley. Grandchildren: David (Debbie) Price, Ohio; Danny (Jodi) Price, West Jordan; Doug Price, Kearns; Debbie (Tracy) Larsen, Connecticut; Scott (Adrienne) Wright, West Jordan; Brandon (Glafira) Wright, West Jordan; Kimberly (Brian) Fletcher, Vernal; Shelly (Ryan) Oliverson, West Jordan; Tina Elwood, West Valley; Kristie Elwood, West Valley; Jared (Tawnya) Elwood, Taylorsville; Aaron (Becky) Elwood, Tooele, 36 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Jordan 3rd Ward, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy. Viewings will be Tuesday 6-8 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, and Wednesday at the church one hour before services. Interment, Sandy City
