SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of LB Neli A'asa (6-2, 295, Utah) to the 2011 roster.

"We are excited to add an explosive player like A'asa to our defense. We followed his career at the University of Utah and he is a proven performer," said Head Coach Ron James. "He will definitely help us as we make our final push towards the post season."

A'asa joins the Blaze after finishing his collegiate career at the University of Utah in 2010. In his final season, he played in all 13 games on defense, offense and special teams. He notched 8.0 total tackles, one pass breakup, 2.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards and 1.5 sacks for a loss of five yards in his final campaign. He also returned two kicks against Air Force and BYU.

He played in all 13 games as a junior and only missed one as a sophomore. In 2007, he played in 11 games on special teams. Against Wyoming, A'asa caught a pass from punter Louie Sakoda on a fake punt and ran 41 yards to the 1-yard line, setting the team up for a touchdown on the ensuing play. As a redshirt in 2006, he won the team's defensive "Future Award".

In other roster moves, the Blaze activated OL Ed Ta'amu (6-1, 380, Utah) from the Injured Reserve List, placed DL TJ Raymond (6-3, 345, Northeastern State) on the Injured Reserve List and placed WR/DB Ralph Turner (5-9, 185, South Alabama) on Recallable Reassignment.
