Dolores DeWulf O'Farrell 6/27/1927 ~ 6/6/2011

Dolores Helene "Dody" DeWulf O'Farrell passed away on June 6, 2011 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dolores was born on June 28, 1927 in Rawlins, Wyoming, the eldest of three daughters born to Joseph L. DeWulf and Helen Brown DeWulf. She was raised in South Baxter/Mountain Fuel Camp and graduated in 1946 from Rock Spring High School in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She attended nurses training at St. Benedicts Hospital in Ogden, Utah and was a member of the first graduating class of 1950. She was awarded the "Most Outstanding Student Nurse in the State of Utah" for her outstanding academic achievements. She continued her career as a registered nurse in Wyoming and Utah. She married William Kirby "Bill" O'Farrell on October 4, 1952 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She and Bill raised their three daughters: Kathleen, Laureen, and Colleen in Rock Springs. Dolores remained active in the parish as well as Our Lady of Sorrows Parochial School where she was the volunteer school nurse. Dolores and Bill moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1976 where she continued her community and church involvement. She was a member of St. Ambrose Parish, St. Ann's Guild and St. Mary's Alter Society. She was extremely generous and supported global Catholic Charities. Dolores and Bill spent their retirement years in Salt Lake City, Green Valley, Arizona and Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was currently a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parrish in Cheyenne. She enjoyed traveling, reading and was a life long learner. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Dolores was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, and love of her life, Bill, their three daughters and their families: Kathleen O'Farrell Kottenstette and son-in-law Michael of Laramie; Laureen O'Farrell Powell of Cheyenne; son-in-law Kevin Powell of Point Roberts, Washington; Colleen O'Farrell West and son-in law Charlie West of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren: Sean Kottenstette, Lauren Kottenstette, Dr. Ann Marie Powell Byrd (Ross Andrew Byrd, Montana Amy National Guard currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq), Shannon Powell, Laura Powell Rousey (Aaron Curtis Rousey, U.S. Army currently serving in Afghanistan), Andrea West Stewart (Danny), and Catherine West. Three great-grand-children: Ava Marie Byrd, William Patrick Byrd, Leona Beth Powell; sisters: Patricia "Patsy" DeWulf Radman (Pete) of Rock Springs; and Margaret "Peggy" DeWulf Evans of San Francisco, CA; 22 nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday June 10, 2011 at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway, Rock Springs, Wyoming. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until time of rosary and again at the Vase Chapel on Friday morning until time of funeral services.
