Ralph Hall 1924 ~ 2011

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ralph Hall, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.Ralph was born of goodly parents, Charles and Marjorie Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 15, 1924. He enjoyed growing up in the Avenues of SLC with his four brothers, Lester, Ivan, Norman and Melvin. He and his brothers worked with their father, Charles in the candy factory behind their house on 5th Ave. They practiced sports, track and field, and skiing in the fields and hills behind the candy factory. Ralph graduated from East High School in 1942. While in high school he won the BYU "All Around Decath-lon" two years in a row, and was a star running back for the school football team, prompting the coach for U of U to invite him to run track and play football. Unfortunately World War II broke out so he enlisted and was shipped overseas. Just before leaving he married the beautiful Kathryn Hutcheson from Dennison, Iowa. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. He served in the Army Air Corps (now the Air Force), the 58th Bombing Wing, under such famous generals as General Doolittle, and General Lemay in India, China and later Okinawa, Japan during 1944 and 1945. He was there when Japan surrendered and the war ended. After the war Ralph started a successful candy business in 1946 with his father Charles, and brother Ike, and was able to run the company for nearly 15 years. In 1960 he moved his family to Manhattan Beach, California, and started another successful candy factory. He would later return to Utah in 1988, moving to Midway, Utah where has resided with his wife Katherine. Ralph loved sports, and would later become a champion golfer. Perhaps his greatest love was taking his wife and family camping, fishing and on many other fun trips. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren to golf and fish. He is survived by his dear companion of 68 blissful years of marriage, six children, Greg and Jocelyn Hall (Modesto, CA); Randy and Helen Hall (Midway); Christina and Nick Berg (Hurricane); Julianna and Randy Fields (Park City); Theresa Jayne (Goleta, CA); Victoria and Michael Manson (Valley Village, CA); brother, Melvin Hall (Kearns), 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Because Ralph was a very kind, gentle, fun-loving person he was loved by all. He will be missed sorely, but we are grateful he is in a beautiful place with his loved ones and his Savior. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011 - 1:00 p.m. in the Midway 1st Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 200 S. 250 E. Midway, Utah. A viewing will on Saturday from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the LDS Church. Interment will follow the services with military honors in the Midway City Cemetery.
