One year ago this week my wife and I were almost taken in a scam — a phone call from a "grandson" vacationing in Canada said he was in jail and was asking for bail money. Concerned about other older couples that might get caught up and send money in similar situations, I sent a letter to the editor, which the Deseret News published. Today I had another phone call, but this time from an 80-year-old neighbor, He was laughing and said he just had a call from his "grandson" in a San Diego jail. My neighbor played games with the caller because he recalled reading my experience of a year before. Please, old and young alike, the scam artists are out there working hard, be careful.
