Helga Mettlach Zabriskie 1937 ~ 2011Comment on this story
Helga Mettlach Zabriskie, 73, our wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend died on Tuesday, May 10th at her home in Murray, Utah. She was born August 15, 1937 in Cologne, Germany to Hans Georg and Dorothea Margot Brandt Mettlach. She was raised in Frankfurt where she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a teenager. Helga felt a desire to move to the USA and soon immigrated on her own to Chicago before permanently residing in Utah. She married Jerry Ramon Zabriskie in the Manti LDS Temple on February 1, 1963. Helga's life was dedicated to her family and she loved them with all her heart. She was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many capacities. She was heavily involved in scouting, and was proud to see all four of her boys receive their Eagle Scout Awards. She touched the lives of many young men as she faithfully served as a scout leader for over 20 years. She was honored to receive the Silver Beaver award in recognition of her tireless, selfless efforts towards her scouts. Helga was a true example of selfless service, always thinking of others' needs before her own. She enjoyed watching all sports, and was the world's greatest Jazz fan. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; four sons, Ramon Burton (Marcene), Ronald Allen, Randy Jay (Linda), and Ryan Dean (Christina); sister Hanna; brother Horst; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Heidi. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hearts for Hospice for their support and care.
