Marjorie Elizabeth Yeates Nelson 1921 ~ 2011

On February 22, 2011, Marjorie Elizabeth Yeates Nelson returned to the joy and loving arms of her husband and family. She was born March 16, 1921 to Morgan Phillip and Jennie Irene King Yeates. She graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah. Marjorie served a mission in the North Central States where she met many lifelong friends and the love of her life, Reed Stender Nelson. She and Reed were married in the Salt Lake Temple Oct. 25, 1945. They are survived by four children: Ronald (Margaret), Deborah, Claudia (Brent) Watson, and Joel (Sue), 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Marjorie served for 12 years on the Relief Society General Board with Sisters Belle S. Spafford and Barbara B. Smith. Her knowledge of the scriptures was felt by every culture of the world she visited. She also served as Stake Relief Society President, Young Women President four times, and Gospel Doctrine teacher. Marjorie and Reed traveled to many parts of the world and spent three years in the Philippines where Reed was a consulting engineer. They taught and shared the gospel on the Island of Leyte where they still have many dear friends. Marjorie was devoted to her family attending all of her children's sports and music activities. She loved serving in the church, honored her country, and sought beauty in all that she did. She loved the Lord and His teachings. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Olympus 9th Ward, 4635 South Lanark Rd (3315 East). Friends and family can visit Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and Monday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
